Dr. Katie is a Doctor of Physical Therapy here at B Physical Therapy. Dr. Katie enjoys helping patients with orthopedic and sports injuries. She has a special interest in working with teens and young adults pursuing higher-level athletics. She also has over 10 years of experience practicing Vinyasa Yoga. Additionally, Dr. Katie has a strong background in personal training as she holds a personal trainer certification from the highly accredited American College of Sports Medicine.
Dr. Katie was born and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida. She was a multi-sport athlete growing up as both her parents were also competitive athletes. Ultimately, she ended up excelling in flag football, soccer, and volleyball. Her primary goals were “strive for excellence, support the team, be the best version of myself possible.”
After graduating from high school, Dr. Katie relocated to Williamsburg, Virginia where she attended the College of William & Mary, which is the second-oldest higher level educational institution in the country. Dr. Katie has an affinity for fine arts and dance leading her to major in Sculpture and minor in Biochemistry. She actually won a statewide collegiate art competition with a bronze sculpture.
While in college, Dr. Katie found her true athletic passion when she started playing competitive rugby, which quickly became her favorite sport. She most enjoyed how the sport highlights the strength and resilience of the human body and the camaraderie amongst teammates and even between competing teams. She was also introduced to formal strength training which sparked another passion.
As an athlete herself, Dr. Katie has experienced her fair share of injuries including a significant wrist fracture in 2015. A teammate at the time was a Doctor of Physical Therapy, and she was instrumental in not only my recovery process. She also allowed Dr. Katie to find her own passion to become a Doctor of Physical Therapy herself.
In 2017, Dr. Katie returned to Florida and earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Central Florida in 2020. During her time at UCF, she worked at several local outpatient facilities where she gained a better understanding of clinical practice as a physical therapist. She also pursued the educational aspect of physical therapy by working as a Graduate Teaching Associate and Adjunct Professor for her alma mater, where she formally taught several classes on human development and injury management.
Dr. Katie is still an active athlete, playing adult-league flag football at least 1-2 times per week and strength training regularly. She even recently competed in her first bodybuilding show in 2021 and won trophies in the Figure category. Aside from fitness, she is a huge animal lover! Dr. Katie and her partner, Steven have two cats, Archer and Ivy. If you ask Dr. Katie, she is always willing to show off pictures of them. She also loves traveling, having lived in three different states, visited over thirty others, and traveled to six countries on three different continents. She is always looking for new adventures and truly loves working with others to stay strong and healthy for their own adventures as well!
Katie looks forward to helping each person that interacts with our practice so that you can “B Your Best”!
