Goals: Reduce pain and tension in specific muscles and tissues to allow improved motion.
Purpose: Tension and muscle guarding can often contribute to pain. Soft tissue mobilization allows us to assist your body to relax and allow greater motion and reduced pain.
Treatment specifics: Soft tissue mobilization can sometimes be referred to as massage. We sometimes use instruments to assist in mobilizing the targeted tissues. This is called Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) and can be effective in decreasing localized muscle pain. We will also use our hands to perform strumming at a variety of different pressures to target specific areas of discomfort. We may also use a technique called “pin and stretch” where we actually hold pressure on a muscle and then stretch it to help improve motion and alleviate pain. This occasionally incorporates you assisting by moving your muscles in very specific directions to enhance this treatment even more!
